Abstract

It is well established that SHR/STZ animals are suitable animal models for cardiometabolic disorders and are often utilised in studies requiring a more rapid onset of the pathological cascade. This study sought to compare the presentation and magnitude of cardiovascular dysfunction in adolescent SHR, STZ and SHR/STZ rats. Animals were incorporated into the study at eight weeks of age and diabetes was induced via a single intravenous dose of streptozotocin. All terminal assessments were conducted when animals were sixteen weeks of age.
