Abstract

Abstract Chapter 1 opened with Adolf Michaelis’ letter to the Right Honourable W. Cowper Temple at Broadlands in Hampshire, so Chapter 2 begins with another letter—from Cowper Temple’s grandfather, Viscount Palmerston, who acquired the sculptures whose ancient specimens were catalogued by Michaelis in 1877 and published in Ancient Marbles in Great Britain in 1882.
