Abstract

The main aim of this study was to analyse different causes of unnatural deaths and its epidemiological aspects. Identifying the risks of unnatural deaths will help to improve overall planning & enable to prevent avoidable deaths. The study was conducted in the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Dr. V.M. Government Medical College, Solapur in an attempt to explore pattern of unnatural deaths in Solapur. Total 1794 cases of medico-legal autopsies were studied during the period of one year. As per this study, trauma (51.92%) was the most common cause of death followed by thermal injuries (21.16%), violent asphyxia deaths (13.46%) and poisoning (12.02%). While in case of males, trauma (64.39%) was the most common cause of the death in case of males, it was thermal injuries (46.78%) in case of females.
