Abstract

The spectrum of five-times-ionized vanadium, V VI, has been observed from 110 Å to 2 000 Å by using a vacuum sliding-spark discharge and a 5-m grazing-incidence spectrograph and a 3-m normal-incidence spectrograph. About 170 lines have been identified as combinations between 56 levels in the 3s23p6, 3s23p53d, 4s, 4p, 4d, 4f, 5s and 3s3p63d configurations. The energy parameters determined from least-squares fits of the observed level values are compared with Hartree-Fock calculations. The ionization energy, 3s23p5 2P3/2-3s23p6 1S0, is determined to 1 033 700 ± 400 cm-1 (128.16 ± 0.05 eV).
