Abstract

The chromatographic fingerprint has been internationally accepted as a feasible means for the quality evaluation of herbal medicines and their preparations. However, it does not involve in bioactivity and directly reflect the efficacy of the drugs. An unique strategy, the spectrum-activity integrated fingerprint containing the chemical profiles and bioactive properties obtained by the on-line HPLC-DAD-CL method, was developed for the quality evaluation of G. biloba leaves and Danshen injection based on H2O2 and O2 scavenging activities [1,2]. The HPLC-DAD-MS-CL technique was investigated for the quality evaluation of Epimedium by on-line gathering of chemical, active and structural features of compounds in herbal medicines. The spectrum-activity integrated fingerprint was proven to be a powerful and meaningful tool for the quality control of herbal medicines.
