Abstract

This paper is a continuation of a series by Cummins and collaborators (3, 5, 6, 7, 9) concerning the grass rusts of the world. A key for identification, descriptions, synonymy, host ranges, and geographic distributions are presented for the five recognized species. These are all presumed to be long-cycled and heteroecious, but the aecial stage is known for only one species. This latter species, U. andropogonis Tracy, occurs in the eastern United States; U. clignyi Pat. & Hariot, is circumglobal in warmer regions; U. inayati Syd. is known from India and China; U. vossiae Barcl. is known only from northern India; and U. schoenanthi Syd. is known from India, New Guinea, and the Philippine Islands. The basis of this work has been the comparative morphological study of approximately 125 specimens deposited in the Arthur Herbarium, Purdue University.
