Abstract

It is shown how large-eddy simulations, by means of the eddy-viscosity parameterization of the dissipative scales, can be used to reproduce the statistical properties of low and moderate resolution numerical simulations of 3-D homogeneous turbulence [1, 2, 3]. The simulations also indicate how the intermittency of fully developed homogeneous turbulent flows has an important time-dependent component. A comparison with a direct (2103) numerical simulation confirms the existence of the temporal component of the intermittency and indicates the negligible influence of the specific dissipative model.KeywordsIsotropic TurbulenceDirect SimulationDissipative ScaleInertial RangeHomogeneous TurbulenceThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
