Abstract

NMR of 195 Pt was studied at helium temperatures in the Pt metal with addition of 3d, 4d and 5d transition metal solutes. The satellite lines separated from the main line were observed in Pt V, Pt Cr, Pt Nb, Pt Re and Pt Rh at the solute concentration less than 0.5 at%. From the analysis of these satellite lines, the spacial distribution function of the change of the magnetic susceptibility at Pt sites was derived. It is shown that the observed change of the bulk magnetic properties due to the solute atom can be reproduced well by this distribution function and that the change is localized in the vicinity of the solute atom. The effect due to the spin polarization of conduction electrons by the localized magnetic moment of solute expected for Pt Cr is found to be negligibly small possibly due to its high Kondo temperature.
