Abstract

In this study, the evolution of the α phase precipitated from metastable β-type Ti-4V-2Mo-2Fe alloy under various aging conditions and its impact on mechanical properties were investigated. With the increase of aging temperature and time, the yield strength of the alloy decreases from the highest 1435 MPa to 995 MPa, and the elongation increases from 3 % to 14 %. Comparing with the volume fraction of αs, the space of αs was identified as the principal factor affecting the alloy’s mechanical properties. The contribution of αs to strength increases as the αs spacing decrease, while elongation improves with the αs spacing increases.
