Abstract
This articleexamines archaeological evidence on the history of Cisjordan during the Middle Bronze Age. It explains that this was one of the formative eras in the history of the southern Levant and that it is traditionally considered as a period of re-urbanisation during which large urban sitesdeveloped again in the region. The article considers the processes of urbanisation, standardisation, continuation, innovation, and progression as they are represented by different elements in the archaeological record in order to elucidate the development of the Middle Bronze Age in Canaan. It also analyses the settlement patterns, site development, architecture, and material culture ofIsrael/Palestine.
