Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to provide a broad strategic overview of the principal activities that constitute the water services industry in South Africa and the Gauteng region in particular, to focus on some of the key cost drivers and associated issues that impact on or emerge from each of these activity areas and to discuss these issues and the their ultimate consequences for the end consumer. It is hoped that that this paper will provide the delegates with -an appreciation of the context and complexity of the South African water service industry The discussion around the activity areas is broad and should not be interpreted as being inclusive of all relevant matters or conclusive.
