Abstract
T HE fabulous empire that is Hollywood's motion picture industry rests confidently on a foundation of paper and celluloid. Without scripts or without film, the fragile substances of its support, this glittering dominion would vanish like Atlantis. There seems to be an extremely slight possibility, fortunately, of such an occurrence. Raw film is being turned out at the rate of millions of reels each year, and studio story departments examine more than 20,000 pieces of written material annually in their quest for potential screen plays.
