Abstract

Following the work of Beilis (J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 74 p171, 1983), the author calculates ranges and acoustic intensities for deep caustics and turning points in an underwater sound channel. The acoustic intensity at such points is shown to be proportional to the cube root of frequency and inversely proportional to distance travelled. Results are compared with the normal mode and parabolic equation methods. — Ed.
