AbstractThe sorption of sulphur dioxide by a number of carpet and solid flooring material samples has been investigated at a concentration of 50 to 60 μg/m3 using 35S‐labelled sulphur dioxide. The amount of sulphur dioxide sorbed by the samples varied little with their chemical composition and was of such a magnitude as to suggest a low affinity of the surfaces for sulphur dioxide. The sorption of sulphur dioxide by artificial fibre carpet pile was shown to be significantly reduced by the application of dyes.
