Abstract
A medium voltage (MV) cable network is a substantial component of the distribution grid. Present management of this network segment is mainly based on the failure rate analysis. The efficiency of the system is low and connected with additional costs of repair works and supply interruption. The paper describes the current experience in the implementation of SORAL project. The aim of the project was to implement the management of the MV cable network supported by IT system with a new Health Index (HI). The Health Index (estimated condition of the individual cable sections) was obtained from diagnostic measurements data (partial discharge and tan delta measurements) and supported by technical and service data. This system gives the possibility to optimise maintenance procedures and replacement of cable policies.
