Abstract

AbstractThe solution polymerization of butadiene and isoprene catalyzed by Co3+‐acetylacetonate has been investigated at 130°C. by dilatometric techniques. A half order dependence on the catalyst concentration and an approximate first order dependence on the monomer concentration have been found. Apparent activation energies of 13 and 20 kcal.·mole−1 were found for isoprene and butadiene respectively. Diphenylpicrylhydrzayl and p‐benzoquinone had no significant effect on the rates of the diene polymerization although the styrene polymerization was strongly inhibited under similar conditions.
