Abstract

Medical equipment, device or implant which removes the fluid or gas from a wound and/or human body cavity is known as Surgical Drains. These surgical drains are commonly used in abdominal surgery to minimize the post-operative complications like infection and hematoma. These are of various types, our research focuses on passive drains made of latex, polypropylene, or silastic rubber. Relatively the different drugs administered as a prophylaxis were also noted. The objective of this study was to have the relation between the occurrence of post-operative complications and their effects on healing of the tissues. Administered Antibiotic prophylaxis decreases the rate of surgical wound infection.
