W. ; Burginyon, G. A. ; Seward, F. D. Abstract The X-ray spectra of Tycho's supernova remnant and Cas A have been measured with good statistics. Both spectra show evidence for silicon line emission. The thermal model of Tucker and Koren has been used to fit both spectra. To obtain a satisfactory fit to the data with this model, the silicon abundance must be increased about 10 times from the usual cosmic abundance values. Neither spectrum can be fitted with exponential or power4aw models without the addition of line emission. Tycho's remnant shows very little soft X-ray absorption.
