The Sociology of Wounded Sign - A Study on The Social meaning of Lee Cheong-Joon’s novel ｢Twoe-won」

Abstract

이 논문은 이청준 소설의 원형적 기호 양식 및 서사 패턴을 분석하여 사회적 콘텍스트를 해석해 내기 위해 구상되었다. 이청준 소설은 다양한 소재와 주제의식에도 불구하고 보다 포괄적인 범주에서 살펴보면 일관된 양식상의 의미 구조를 나타내고 있다. 그리고 이러한 일관된 양상의 의미 구조는 작품을 둘러싸고 있는 사회 구조의 성격을 이해할 수 있게 한다. 이청준 소설의 원형적 기호 양식이라고 할 수 있는 아이러니의 언술 구조와 액자소설 형식의 탐구적 서사 패턴은 가치붕괴 시대의 사회적 모순에 대한 소설 미학적 반응으로 해석된다. 논문은 ‘물신적 권위주의’와 ‘교환 가치의 매개’로 인한 사회적 모순 구조가 ‘양가성’이라는 텍스트상의 언어 및 심리 구조로 치환되어 나타나는 미학적 반응 과정을 분석하여 소설의 사회 비판적 의미를 해석하는 데 집중하였다. 이를 위해 이청준 초기 소설 ｢퇴원｣에 나타난 텍스트 생산 원리를 세 가지 범주(심리적 기호 영역, 서술적 기호 영역, 양식적 기호 영역)로 나누고, 범주들 사이의 구조적 상동성을 바탕으로 사회적 의미를 해석해 내는 방법을 마련하였다. 이 논문이 이청준 소설의 텍스트 생산 원리를 발견하고 소설사회학적 가치를 구명할 수 있기를 기대한다.This thesis is constructed to make an interpretation the social context of Lee Cheong-Joon’s novel by analyzing its prototypical symbol mode and narrative pattern. When looking through a comprehensive category, Lee’s novel keeps expressing the semantic structure in the sense of coherence in spite of diverse material and subject consciousness. And it makes us to understand the character of the social structure surrounding his work. ‘The descriptive structure of the irony’ and ‘the enquiring narrative pattern with the form of the frame novel’ which can be named as the prototypical symbol mode of Lee’s novel are interpreted as the novel-aesthetic response about the social absurdities. This thesis concentrates on interpreting the social critical meaning of the novel by analyzing the aesthetic process of reaction which the social contradictory structure arised from ‘the material fetishistic authoritarianism’ and ‘the intermediation by the exchange value’ is replaced and appeared with the language in the text and psychological structure called ambivalence’. For this, this thesis devises the method that devides the productive principle of the text shown in the Lee’s early novel ｢Twoe-won｣ into three categories (psychological symbol field, descriptive symbol field and stylized symbol field) and then makes interpreting the social meaning on the basis of the structural homology among the categories. It is expected that this thesis identifies the productive principle of the text in Lee Cheong-Joon’s novel and brings light on the value of the sociology of novel.
