Abstract

Every counselor feels the need for knowing more about trends in occupations. Not only is knowledge of trends in occupations incomplete, but research techniques to determine trends are inadequately worked out at the present time. Undoubtedly investigators will experiment with many different techniques before adequate ones are found. One only is suggested here. It proposes to build up a picture of an occupation longitudinally, with a consideration of the economic and social structure in which the occupation functions.
