Abstract

INTRODUCTION This art icle wi l l conceptual ize a 22-year old Afr ican Amer i can incarcerated male, Mr. R, f rom a social psychology perspect ive. Ident i fy ing in fo rmat ion has been changed to pro tec t t he ident i t y o f this cl ient. The f irst author, an Afr ican Amer ican female, t a u g h t a diversi ty seminar course in wh ich the second author, a Wh i te female doctoral clinical psychology s tudent was enro l led in at the same t ime enro l led in a social cul tural psycho logy course t a u g h t by a social psychology professor. A major object ive o f the diversity course was to increase doctora l students ' mui t icu t tura l awareness, k n o w l e d g e and skill competencies in the i r clinical and mental heal th service delivery.
