Abstract

This article1 addresses two questions about the revolutionary process in the GDR.2 What political roles did the working class play during the Wende, and what light can the socialist labour process shed on workers' political choices during this crisis?3 The first section reveals that GDR workers followed three principal political paths during the Wende. Many workers eschewed political involvement almost completely, while a minority chose to become actively engaged in the conflict.
