Abstract

A quiet revolution has been taking place in the way social work de velops and uses knowledge for practice. The profession has gradually moved away from vague and haphazard formulations and toward scientifically or empiri cally based practice. The author reviews the evidence of this change, noting that new forms of knowledge with the potential to enhance every practitioner's effec tiveness are already available, and discusses the prospects for the rev olution's success.
