Abstract

The Rig Veda is the first of the Vedas. The thirty-fourth Sūkta of the tenth Mandala is the Akṣa Sūkta. This verse clearly describes what happened in Kitava’s life as a result of gambling. There is also praise for agriculture in that employment on top of agricultural activities is the only way to get rid of gambling. The evil consequences of gambling in Vedic times are understood by this Sukta. The negative consequences of this are still being seen in our society. This paper will discuss how gambling prevalent in society can be avoided according to the views of the Rig Veda.
