Abstract

When liquid is in a small gap between edge faces, liquid forms a liquid bridge that connects each of the edge faces. When this liquid bridge breaks up by stretching, a micro droplet is generated near the center of the gap. We investigated the effect of liquid bridge volume on the size of the generated droplet, aiming to apply this phenomenon to new dispensing method which can dispense a picoliter droplet. Consequently, we find the fact that the diameter of the generated droplets is in proportional to the liquid bridge volume. That results in the volume range of generated droplets is approximately from 30[pL] to 4000[pL].
