Abstract

CaSiO3 ceramics were fabricated with and without B2O3 addition by pressureless sintering. The results showed that B2O3 can be successfully used as sintering additive through liquid sintering. The β-CaSiO3 ceramics with 1wt% B2O3 sintered at 1000°C revealed flexural strength and fracture toughness of 168.4MPa and 2.1MPam1/2 respectively, both of which were much higher than those of pure β-CaSiO3 ceramics (30.2MPa, 0.5MPam1/2). XRD analysis and SEM observation indicated that the main phase maintained to be β-phase after sintering.
