Abstract

When supplied with copper, nodulated plants ofAlnus glutinosa in nitrogenfree culture solution showed significantly better growth than corresponding plants denied that element, the most marked effect being an increase in percent nitrogen in the leaf dry matter. Thus the nodular fixation of nitrogen appears to require an adequate level of copper, though the extent to which this is specific for the actual fixation process cannot be assessed from the data provided.
