Abstract

AbstractThe effect of differences in the stereochemistry of drugs on their pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties has been recognized for long. In recent years, technological advances in the synthesis and analysis of chiral compounds has made it possible to closely observe for such differences. As a result, a number of new drugs have been registered as pure enantiomers and the drugs used in racemic forms currently have been subjected to analysis for their enantiomers. In this chapter, we discuss various groups of drugs and highlight the chirality-based differences in their pharmacological and toxicological properties.
