Abstract

AMONG 1309 pregnant women screened in early pregnancy, 71 had significant bacteriuria. In significantly more of these than of the non-bacteriuric patients pyelonephritis followed. These patients with pyelonephritis represented only 31·8% of the patients in whom pyelonephritis developed. Bacteriuria in early pregnancy did not seem to increase the likelihood of prematurity, neonatal death, stillbirth, abortion, essential or terminal hypertension, and pre-eclampsia.
