Naval Engineers JournalVolume 79, Issue 3 p. 350-358 THE SHIPYARD-NAVY PARTNERSHIP ASNE Day Luncheon Address JOHN T. GILBRIDE, JOHN T. GILBRIDE The Author was born May 29, 1916 in Brooklyn, New York. He was elected President of Todd Shipyards Corporation in March 1958. Mr. Gilbride, who has been a Director of the Todd organization since 1951, is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined the Company's Brooklyn Division in 1939 and has participated extensively in all phases of ship repair, conversion and construction in various Todd yards. Just before the United States entered World War II, Mr. Gilbride was appointed assistant Superintendent of Naval conversions at Todd's Brooklyn Division. Subsequently he served as Ship Repair Supervisor; Superintendent in Charge of Naval Repairs; and finally as General Superintendent of the shipyard. In March 1946 Mr. Gilbride was assigned to the Los Angeles Division as Assistant General Manager and later that same year he was appointed General Manager of that yard Mr. Gilbride held this post until, in 1958, Todd's Board of Directors elected him President of the Corporation. He has had a long association with the U.S. Navy in the repair, conversion and construction of warships. In addition to serving as President and Director of the Todd organization, Mr. Gilbride is Director of three subsidiaries, Todd Combustion Ltd. in London, Lester Engineering Company in Cleveland and Todd Rock Combustion Ltd. in Montreal. Mr. Gilbride has been a leading spokesman in behalf of the American Merchant Marine, and he holds many significant positions in various organizations and associations related to the maritime industry. He was awarded last year's Admiral “Jerry” Land Medal for outstanding accomplishment in the marine field by the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, of which he is a Vice President. He is a member of the Executive Committee and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Webb Institute of Naval Architecture, Director and Chairman of Shipbuilding Committee of the Shipbuilders Council of America and Member of the Board of Managers, American Bureau of Shipping.Search for more papers by this author JOHN T.
