Abstract

The plasma–wall transition in the presence of a hot plasma flow toward a wall is investigated. The distribution function of the ion in the sheath potential is derived from the Boltzmann equation which includes the effect the ionization and charge–exchange interactions between the plasma and neutral. The presheath potential in the absence of the charge–exchange interaction is discussed in order to understand the qualitative behavior of the presheath potential. The profile of the sheath potential from the plasma to the wall is obtained by solving the Poisson equation numerically and the dependence of the solution on the parameters, such as the ion flow velocity, temperatures and the neutral density, is presented. Using solutions, the Bohm criterion and the power transmission factor at the wall are discussed.
