Abstract

Abstract The dimensions of the normal work area originally proposed by Barnes and modified by Squires were determined for a sample representative of the current United States population. One standard work area is not satisfactory for everyone. More emphasis should be given to movements straight ahead of the worker and less emphasis should be given to movements to the side. Work areas are given for the 5th, 50th, and 95th percentiles of the male and female United States population.
