Abstract

• The shape of end-face of nanowire growing in template pore is theoretically considered. • The deviation of nanowire end-face from a plane is caused by the edge effect. • The proposed model involves parameter B that determines the end-face shape. • Analytical and numerical solutions of the problem agree satisfactory. • The simulated 3D images of end-face shape are presented for several B. The steady-state shape of the end-face of metal wire, which is electrodeposited in a template nanopore, is studied. The deviation of the end-face shape from a plane due to the edge effect is analyzed. The developed model takes into account the dependence of the metal electrodeposition rate on the surface curvature. The model involves a dimensionless parameter that governs the shape of nanowire end-face. The end-face shape is calculated for various values of this parameter. The numerical and approximate analytical solutions of the problem agree well.
