Abstract
While the vast majority of New Jersey photographers in the 1800s were law-abiding, there were exceptions, including six photographers accused of crimes: Gideon C. Angle, Edward W. Blake, Frederick Fearn, Edward R. Stoutenburgh, John C. Tibbels, and Peter Walker. This study examines the lives of these photographers just before and during the Gilded Age.
