Abstract

Both “musique concr`ete” and electronic forms of tape music have extended not only the technical aspects of instrumental music, but also the musical ideas and imagination of composers in the latter half of this century through their commitment to this domain. As one of the composers who has been engaged in the field of tape music since 1953, Yuasa summarises basic technical aspects of tape music. He describes its actual reflection on instrumental music as a musical idea with examples taken from his own works. This is English translation of a paper which originally appeared in Japanese in “Transonic” a periodical published by a group of composers in which Yuasa participated.
