Abstract

The anguish of the literati is often to be found in times of great change in the world. Moreover, the anguish that comes forth from the concern for the future of all human beings and their lives often would contain a torrential passion, and would sparkle with dazzling brilliance. This is true of the television production River Elegy. That terrible fear and anxiety that comes of the sense that the survival or destruction of the nation hangs in the balance of the moment, the lamentation that comes of the sense of regret and remorse when one looks back at the things gone by, each sigh is transformed into a crying of the soul, each louder and more urgent than the last, urging the people to awake! Awake! These young writers, these souls that bear on their shoulders such a terrible burden, are truly like the thorn birds that sing their song for the ending of the century!
