Abstract
The authors introduce new numismatic evidence from a recent excavation at Tel Hebron (Tell Rumeida) which indicates that a Second Temple period settlement was located on the biblical mound. The excavation―which revealed a Hasmonean through Late Roman–Early Byzantine domestic and industrial quarter―sheds new light on the significance and ethnic structure of the town of Hebron, in particular during the Hasmonean and Early Roman periods. The article is the first published numismatic biography of this important site.
