Abstract

Abstract This article outlines Bavinck’s conceptualization of theology as the servant-queen of the sciences. The potential contribution Bavinck makes to the contemporary debate over the place of theology in the university is considered, paying attention to the historical context in which it was framed, recent objections to any revival of the claim that theology is the queen of the sciences, and a notable lacuna in Bavinck’s reflections on this subject.
