Abstract

A study was conducted to compare the total serum lipid status of dermatophilus infected and healthy cattle breeds in Vom. Eighteen (18) cattle comprising 9 healthy and 9 infected cattle's of Nigerian indigenous origin (Sokoto Gudali, White Fulani and Red Bororo) with an average weights of 240kg of the same sex (males) were used for the study. Blood samples were collected from the V.Jugularis prior to the morning feeding, and submitted for total serum lipid status. The results of mean values of serum total lipids revealed significantly higher serum total lipids profile (P<0.05) of healthy cattle breeds than the infected breeds. This was obvious even amongst the individual breeds sampled. It was therefore concluded that total lipids status plays significant role in pathogenesis of dermatopholosis infection amongst Nigerian indigenous breeds of cattle.
