Abstract

1. It has been shown on serological and biochemical grounds thatStr. faecalisfalls into Lancefield's group D.Str. liquefaciensis considered to be a variety ofStr. faecalis, andStr. glycerinaceus(Orla Jensen) has insufficient claim to a separate name.2.Str. lactishas, on biochemical and serological grounds, been clearly differentiated fromStr. faecalisand the other members of group D.3. Reasons are given for assigningStr. lactisto a new serological group ‘N’ into whichStr. cremorisalso falls.
