Synopsis An attempt is made to show how both conditions of transportation and conditions of deposition have to be considered in the interpretation of sequences of internal structures in beds of greywacke and flysch sandstone. Interpretation of graded and laminated divisions involves not only velocity distance (or time) curves but also rates of deceleration.
