Abstract

A method is described for the quantitative isolation of neutral glycolipids of blood serum on thin-layer plates of silica gel. Four different glycolipids have been isolated and characterized: ceramide-monohexoside, -dihexoside, -trihexoside and -trihexoside- N-acetylgalactosamine. The ceramide-monohexoside is a glucocerebroside. All the hexosides, except the amino sugar containing one, contained both normal and hydroxy fatty acids. The glucocerebroside and the ceramide-dihexoside constitute more than 4 5 of total neutral serum glycolipids.
