Abstract
In this work room temperature spectroscopic data are presented for synthesized polyethylene phthalate (as matrix) doped with 2-pyrazine carboxylic acid (Hpya) and its complex with Eu 3+ or Tb 3+ ions. These results reveal an interesting anomaly in the matrix fluorescence, which increases by a factor of 23, when doped with Hpya or its rare earth complexes. The fluorescence spectra of Eu 3+ and Tb 3+ ions are intense, which indicates that there is no significant interaction between the polymer matrix and the metal ions.
