Abstract

Follwing results were obtained the Sensitiv Testing to 1,000 strains of M.tuberculosis were isolated from 1,140 Korean patients, out and in. at National Medical Cener from Jan. 1960 to Oct. 1961. Tweleve Lwenstein_Jensen media sere used which consist of PAS 10γ, 1γ, INH 50γ, 1γ, 0.1γ and SM 100γ, 50γ, 10γ,3γ, per ml of concentration and two contrlos for each examination. After 6 weeks incubation, final reading was performed. The definition of resistance was growth in PAS 10γ, INH 1γ adn SM 10γ per ml of concentration.1) Resistant to a single drug was most common, it was found in 277 cases(ca.28%).2) Resistant to two drugs was found in 232cases (23%) and resistant to three drugs in 223cases (22%).3) Isoniazid resistance was most common and it was found in 601 cases(60%). Streptomycin resistant was found in 415 cases(ca. 42%) and it was almost equalled by PAS resistance 39 cases(ca. 40%).4) There was no difference of resistance between both sexes.5) There was found in 15 cases resistance to three drugs among whom did not receive any Chemo therapy.6) Most susceptibilities was found in urine specimens which 28 cases(54%) were sensitive and 3 cases(6%) resistant to three drugs among total 52 urine specimens compared with the other specimens, especially, 205 cases(23%) were sensitive and 197 cases(24%) resistant to three drugs among total 834 sputum specimens.7) There were some differences in the percentage of susceptibility according to the age group. The group of 10-19 age showed the lowest resistant rate(16%) to three drugs and 30-39 age group showed the lowest sensitive rate(17%) and the highest resistant rate(34%) to three drugs.8) 186 cases include both without any chemotherapy and with regular chem therapy within 6 months belonged to sensitive to three drugs occupied about 70% among total 268 cases sensitive to three drugs.
