Abstract

The familiar formula for the K factor of strain gauges contains a term which is based on geometrical effects and a term containing the change of resistivity by strain. The latter term can be shown to include a geometrical part too. If this is split off, K becomes independent of Poisson’s ratio and K=2, if the material properties remain unchanged by strain.
