Abstract The concept of experience of consciousness (Erfahrung des Bewußtseins) is a central concept to Hegel’s The phenomenology of spirit. At the same time, it is one of the most difficult to understand for the contemporary reader. This contribution aims to highlight the experience of consciousness when its object is represented by the sign or the individual as a system of signs.
