Abstract

Hiring is a common activity in workplace. This paper has extracted single sentences from several corpora to examine the semantic features of Chinese verbs of hiring, ft found that this type of verbs tend to have more patient-like semantic roles than agent-like semantic roles; the top three situational roles are Manner, Time and Location. The most common event related to verbs of hiring is a successive event. This study is useful for understanding the semantic features of Chinese verbs of hiring and has implications for dictionary compilation.
