Abstract

Abstract The so called ‘informal sector’ in Colombia has traditionally accounted for most of the low-cost housing. In 1982 the ‘Autogestion Comunitaria’ or self help movement came to the fore, with people on low incomes working to provide for their own needs. The success of the self-help housing movement will depend on the outcome of individual schemes being undertaken, the degree of integration and the support provided by the present or future governments.
