Abstract

This chapter discusses the self, most specifically, the truth. Some types of discourse do not deal with fiction or opinion, and philosophy, Christian preaching, and autobiography are types of discourse that deal with truths. It is believed that there is a long-standing tension between those who claim to tell the truth and rhetoric. The discussion in this chapter looks at these two facets of discourse and provides some examples of works that deal with rhetoric, the self, and truth.
