Abstract

For some abusive or potentially abusive parents, the self‐help approach either by itself or in conjunction with other counseling offers an alternative to standard forms of help. Instant success is not common but sustained membership over a period of time has developed not only good parents but successful paraprofessionals able to help others. This article should put this form of help in perspective and help professionals decide when it is, and when it is not, a viable referral. (Editor's abstract)
